More photos from my walk today. I've always really liked Millbank Tower, designed by much derided corporate architect Ronald Ward, who also designed the Nestle building and St George's Walk in Croydon. It looked stunning in the sunshine, like a freshly waxed Vauxhall Victor.
My dad worked here when the CEGB had offices there. Great lifts! It was all very James Bond for an 8 year old... having to go through security - opening my danger mouse backpack, having my toy cars examined, etc.
Originally known as the Vickers building, wasn't it?
ReplyDeleteAye. Though by the time it was finished there wasn't much left of Vickers.
ReplyDeleteOne of the few buildings in London which looks as though it could be a transplant from New York.
